How to convert JPG to PNG

Frequently asked questions

Why convert a JPG to PNG?

PNG is lossless: every time a JPG is edited and saved again, it loses a little quality, while a PNG stays exactly the same. PNG is also the format expected by many design tools, websites and forms that only accept PNG files.

Does converting to PNG improve the quality of my photo?

No. The PNG keeps the image exactly as it is, including the small compression artifacts of the JPG. It stops further losses, but it cannot bring back details the JPG already removed.

Will the background become transparent?

No. A JPG has no transparency, so the converted PNG has the same opaque background. To make it transparent, use the background remover, which cuts out the subject with AI and saves it as a PNG.

Why is my PNG file bigger than the JPG?

JPG compresses photos by removing details the eye barely sees, PNG keeps every pixel. A photo is often 3 to 10 times heavier in PNG. For a light file, keep the JPG or choose WEBP in the menu.

Can I convert several JPG files at once?

Yes. Drop up to 50 images, they are converted one after the other, then download them one by one or all together in a zip file.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs directly in your browser: your photos never leave your device. Metadata such as camera details and location is removed from the PNG files.
